The Old Antarctic Explorers Association election cycle for 2024 is underway. Our OAEA bylaws call for regular elections; elected positions include President, Vice President, and Director (to serve on the Board of Directors). Position “descriptions” are included on the other side of this letter, along with the self-nomination form for office.
This election process will happen in 2 steps. The first step is to solicit for nominees; and only self-nominations will be accepted. Once we have the names from the self-nominations in place, a ballot will be prepared and distributed. The new officers will be installed at the 2024 reunion in Colorado Springs, CO next August. There need be no concern about time and work required to perform the functions of an OAEA officer that would keep you from running for office; none of the positions are overly taxing of available time and attention for OAEA business. All business between reunions can be conducted via cellular smart phone or email. The Board of Directors are occasionally called on for votes, and/or periodic meetings via ZOOM, probably not more than quarterly. Other strategic matters as required are carried on by the Executive Council which consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Lack of a computer/email is not required to hold office in the OAEA. A smart phone with a data plan will give you all the required access you need. Reunion attendance is not mandatory; although for the 2 officers’ meetings at reunion, a pre-scheduled dial in time would be available.
